News/views bites Yokohama revamps iPad app Yokohama Tire Corp. (YTC) has released version 1.3 of its iPad app for the truck tire industry, the Yokohama Commercial Tire Navigator. The app is designed to help fleet owners and truck operators learn which Yokohama tires are best for various applications and road conditions. Mitchell 1 adds videos Mitchell 1 has added nine ProDemand training videos to its product training center website. The videos focus on how to use the company's repair, diagnostic and maintenance information program. TIA releases TPMS safety video The Tire Industry Association (TIA) has released "Tire Safety Starts With TPMS," the second in a series of four consumer education videos planned for 2013. The video gives a five-minute overview of tire pressure monitoring systems. Dates set for GAAS 2014 The 2014 edition of the Global Automotive Aftermarket Symposium (GAAS) will be May 20-21 at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare in Rosemont, Ill. The annual twoday executive education program brings together industry leaders and experts to examine the issues and trends affecting the worldwide automotive aftermarket. Epicor, Alliance sign IT deal Epicor Software Corp. and the Aftermarket Auto Parts Alliance have signed an agreement to collaborate on a variety of information technology services. Epicor has provided electronic catalog data, data warehouse services and a variety of related solutions to Alliance for 10 years, and will continue these services for three more years. New Yokohama sales director Yokohama Tire Corp. has hired Andrew Zeisser as director of original equipment sales. Zeisser is responsible for the company's OE business in North America, which includes OE sales, engineering and quality control. He will be based at Yokohama's Detroit office. 14 Del-Nat affliate City Tire turns 85 City Tire Co., with 11 stores in a four-state area, celebrated 85 years of business in July 2013. Founded in July 1927 by Irving Greenberg, who had recently arrived in the United States from Russia, the company is now run by his grandsons, Peter and Danny Greenberg. During its 85 years, the company grew from its original store in Springfeld, Mass., to stores in New Hampshire, Connecticut and Vermont. To help celebrate its 85th anniversary, City Tire, long-time Boston Red Sox supporters, will give 11 fans an opportunity to each win $8,500 in this year's World Series, even if Boston is not involved. People may either visit a City Tire store or register online for a chance to win $8,500 if a grand slam is hit in the eighth inning of the frst game. Each store will have a drawing to select a potential winner. City Tire is affliated with Memphis-based Del-Nat Tire Corp. Michelin recalls 100,000 LT tires Michelin North America Inc. says it is voluntarily recalling approximately 100,000 tires in order to retrieve an estimated 2,500 tires "that could have partial or full sidewall perforations that could cause them to experience loss of air pressure." The recall involves certain sizes of the following Michelin brand lines sold primarily in North America: 1. LTX M/S2, size P275/55R20 111T (raised black letters); size P265/65R18 112T; P265/60R18 109T (outline raised white letters). 2. X Radial LT2, size P265/65R18 112T; P275/55R20 111T. 3. Latitude Tour, P255/60R19 108S; P255/70R18 112T. The National Highway Traffc Safety Administration's Offce of Defects Investigation campaign identifcation designation is 13T006. Stu Crum named president of Bridgestone Retail Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations (BATO) announced that Stuart (Stu) Crum has been named president of Bridgestone Retail Operations LLC, effective August 5. Crum has nearly 30 years of experience in automotive retail, most recently serving as president of Jiffy Lube International, a subsidiary of Shell Oil Co.
