MTD June 2014 L ast June, 202 truck tires were SmartWay-verifed. Tat has increased by more than 50% since then, to 325 tires. More signifcant is the increase in the number of tire brands represented. In the last 12 months, brands with at least one SmartWay-verifed steer, drive or trailer axle tire have risen from 39 to 93. Some of the brands that were not listed last year are Black- lion and Diamondback (distributed by Husky Tire Corp.); Crosswind (Horizon Tire Inc., which also distributes Linglong and Triangle, two other brands on the list); Ironman (an as- sociate brand from Hercules Tire & Rubber Co., a subsidiary of American Tire Distributors Inc.); and Zeetex (ZTI Corp.). In May, the Environmental Protection Agency, which over- sees the SmartWay program, added the Blacklion BF156 FST and BF155 FST to the list. Both are steer tires. Te Blacklion BT166FST trailer tire also is SmartWay-verifed. Tree of eight tires that make up the new Ironman truck tire line are SmartWay-verifed: the I-601 steer, I-208 drive and I-460 trailer paterns. Hercules says it is pursuing SmartWay verifcation for additional Ironman I-Series paterns. Michelin North America Inc.'s new BFGoodrich DR454 is the frst SmartWay-verifed BFGoodrich drive tire. It joins the BFGoodrich ST244 and ST230 all position/steer tires and the TR144 trailer tire on the list. Michelin has two other new SmartWay-verifed tires: the Michelin X One Line Energy T wide-base and the Michelin X Multi Energy Z regional steer. ■ SmartWay update What is not verifed?
