First it was Sascar in Brazil and then NexTraq in the U.S. The newest is Masternaut, in Europe. McCarthy offers internships McCarthy Tire Service Co. Inc. has expanded its corporate internship program, giving high school and college students real-work experience while benefitting from the interns' energy and new ideas. The tire dealer has even hired two of its recent college graduate interns. The pro- gram offers students in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., access to a fast-paced business environ- ment at a growing company. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., and Jim Cooper, D- Tenn., represent states heavily invested in the tire industry. VIP changes oil for schools VIP Inc. paired the grand opening of its new store in Framingham, Mass., with a two-month-long $10 oil change promotion to benefit the local public schools. Framing- ham is VIP's 59th store in New England. Goodyear pilots program Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. is partnering with a short-term electric car subscription company to pilot a program to automati- cally schedule tire maintenance and re- placement for connected fleets. Prazo Inc., which does business as Borrow, is based in West Hollywood, Calif. RNR rewards mothers RNR Tire Express continued its Mother's Day car and tire giveaway in 2019. Three "superhero moms" from Florida, Missouri and Arkansas each received a car. In addition, RNR franchisees collectively gave away 25 sets of tires to mothers recognized as runners-up in the nationwide contest. Nokian teaches tire safety Nokian Tyres plc is educating drivers about tire safety issues. The "Shop Talk With Nokian Tyres" campaign provides drivers with tire safety tips on the web, in blogs, via social media and other platforms. eBay Motors expands its tire installation network of dealers F irestone Complete Auto Care, Tires Plus, National Tire and Battery (NTB) and Tire Kingdom stores have been added to the eBay Motors tire installation network. ey join the program through a new partnership between eBay Inc. and CarAd- vise LLC, which runs a vehicle repair and maintenance technology platform. e partnership initially will add some 3,500 tire outlets to eBay's tire installer network. Thousands of additional brand name shops within the CarAdvise network are slated to roll out over the coming months. As part of its tire installation program, eBay ships customers' tire purchases directly to nearby automotive repair shops for installation at no additional cost, with "tire inventory that spans across all major brands." Tire Discounters enters Indianapolis market T ire Discounters Inc. has six stores under construction in a new market — In- dianapolis — and also has opened one that not only will serve retail consumers, but also serve as a training center for the company's new employees in the capital city. e store and training center in the suburb of Greenwood is designed to serve as a hub for employees before they are permanently placed at one of the company's upcoming six Indianapolis stores. e store is staffed with full-time, experienced sales and service team members. "It's important to us that our new neighbors have the opportunity to meet our team," says Charles Curlee, vice president of sales. e company also is working to build its name recognition in its newest market. In January it adopted a stretch of the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70, vowing to keep it clear of the debris that can lead to flat tires. Tire Discounters is promoting its customer perks, such as free alignment and lifetime balancing and rotating with a standard four-tire purchase. Plus there are courtesy safety inspections and one year of roadside assistance with every tire purchase. e company also is working with AutoZone to host free vehicle safety events. "We always try to go above and beyond for our neighbors," says Crissy Niese, chief customer officer. "Our free safety inspection events include free wiper blade replacement to ensure proper visibility during rain, free tire pressure checks and top offs, and tread depth checks. We're also going to have some fun giveaways to remind our customers that tire safety should always be top of mind." In addition, Tire Discounters contin- ues to expand in the southeastern U.S. e dealership's newest locations serve the Huntsville, Ala., market. A store in Decatur opened in May and an outlet in the Research Park Community opened in June. e company also opened a store in Farragut, Tenn., near Knoxville, in May. e Cincinnati, Ohio-based company has more than 120 outlets in six states: Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama. It is the seventh largest independent tire dealership in the U.S. based on the Modern Tire Dealer 100 list. Tire Discounters has six stores under construction in Indianapolis, and is using this store, in Green- wood, as a home base and training center for all of its new employees who will fill the Indy market.
