It is the first retread plant for the company, which launched TA Truck Service Commercial Tire Network two years ago. The purchase includes the building and equipment, but not the Ironhead brand, according to Sharon Foster, senior director of commercial marketing for TravelCenters. She says the Ironhead facility ceased operations at the end of 2017. e cost of the plant was about $2.7 million with an additional $1.9 million spent for renovations and new equipment, including a Shearography inspection system. e transaction closed at the end of May 2018. e plant will be part of the Goodyear Authorized Retread Network, and will provide a full line of Goodyear commercial retread products, including Goodyear UniCircle retreads, to fleet customers and local industries within a 150-mile radius of Bowling Green in northwest Ohio. TravelCenters says the 32,000-square-foot plant's products also will be available to numerous TA Truck Service facilities, and it is on schedule to open for full production in July. "Adding a retread center to the TA Truck Service Commercial Tire Network portfolio reconfirms our commitment to expanding the array of tires we offer to our customers," says Skip McGary, executive vice president of commercial operations for TravelCenters. "Not only will we be producing a quality Goodyear retread product, but we will also be able to provide a complete cradle-to-grave tire management program." TravelCenters has purchased its first retread plant, which will be part of the Goodyear Authorized Re- tread Network. It is located in Bowling Green, Ohio. Maxam moves to boost U.S. business M axam Tire North America Inc. has tripled the size of its West Coast distribution center, and the company plans to launch eight new product lines in the next year. With its growth in the U.S. market, Jimmy McDonnell, vice president of sales and marketing for Maxam, says, "we needed to address our distribution platform capabilities, starting on the West Coast." e warehouse is located in Los Ange- les and spans approximately 120,000 square feet, and gives the company more than 300,000 square feet of distribu- tion space in the U.S. e new facility will support and supply the complete range of Maxam products, including the Maxam Giant OTR program from 49-inch to 63-inch bead diameter and pressing capabilities for the Maxam Solid OTR program. e warehouse is also home to the product training center for Maxam's North American operations. Both facili- ties will "play a major role in supporting the continued growth and expansion at Maxam Tire," the company says. e company also has a facility in Memphis to serve East Coast customers. ■
