MTD September 2015 News/views John Kreidel departs CEO role at Tire Factory After "a lengthy and thorough review process," Tire Factory Inc. has decided to part ways with CEO John Kreidel. In a letter to members, Chairman Eric Gill said the change in leadership was the result of "an ongoing deliberative process by the board and was not precipitated by any specifc action or event." Walter Lybeck, Tire Factory's chief fnancial offcer, is serving as interim CEO. Kreidel will work with the board and Lybeck to facilitate a smooth transition, according to Gill. "The board wants to recognize John's signifcant contributions to Tire Factory over the last fve years and thank him for his hard work and substantial effort in establishing a solid foundation for the cooperative's future. Tire Factory is committed to its plan for expansion and growth for each member and the cooperative under the Point S brand." (The frst rebranded Point S outlet opened Aug. 15, 2015, in Sumner, Wash.) ATD's William Berry plans to retire American Tire Distributors Inc. (ATD) has announced the planned retirement of president and chief executive William E. ("Bill") Berry. A specifc date has not been set, and Berry will remain in his current role until a successor has been appointed. Upon his retirement, Berry will transition into an advisor role. ATD said internal and external candidates will be considered to replace Berry. Berry will retire after 30 years in the tire industry, beginning in 1984 when he was the corporate controller for ITCO Tire Co. He joined ATD in 1998 as a result of ATD's merger with ITCO. Since becoming president and chief execu- tive offcer in April 2009, Berry has led ATD through a period of rapid growth, including expansion into Canada. Goodyear has a new treasurer and Asia Pacifc president Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. has named Peter Rapin its new vice president and treasurer and Chris Delaney president-elect of its Asia Pacifc business unit. Rapin most recently served as vice president, treasury and tax for TRW Automotive (now part of ZF Friedrichshafen AG). He succeeds Thomas Kaczynski who has served as Goodyear's treasurer since January 2014. Kaczynski has left the company. Delaney joined Goodyear on Aug. 24, 2015, and he assumes full responsibility for the Asia Pacifc business unit on Jan. 1, 2016. He replaces Daniel Smytka, president of the company's Asia Pacifc busi- ness since 2011, who will move to another leadership role. Free tire clinics at event Velocity Network's All Girls Garage star and host of GearheadDiva.com, Rachel De Barros, gave free tire clinics at the Yokohama Tire Corp. display during the Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic in Prattville, Ala., Aug. 28-30. Concept tires recognized Three of Hankook Tire Co. Ltd.'s concept tires were honored at the 2015 Red Dot Design Award and the 2015 IDEA (International Design Excellence Award). The tires were created in collaboration with students from Pforzheim University's Schools of Design, Engineering and Business. Discount Tire recalls LT tires Reinalt-Thomas Corp., which does business as Discount Tire, is recalling 79,513 Pathfinder SAT light truck tires manufactured between Aug. 5, 2013, and May 19, 2015. The Hybrid Shop expands The Hybrid Shop LLC (THS) has expanded to the Asia market through a dealer partner, Optima Werkz, which operates three full-service automotive shops in Singapore. Double Coin revamps website Double Coin Holdings LLC and its American subsidiary, Chinese Manufacturers Alliance LLC (CMA), have launched a redesigned website with improved search functionality that responds to all devices, from desktop computers to cell phones. Advics has new chief Toyota Motor Corp. has installed a new leader at its joint venture company, Advics Co. Ltd. The braking systems supplier's new chief is Satoshi Ogiso, 54, a former Toyota global product planning guru and longtime development leader for Prius vehicles. Michelin extends warranty Michelin North America Inc. has introduced an extended warranty for BFGoodrich brand commercial truck tires and casings, effective on claims filed on or after Sept. 1, 2015. bites John Kreidel is no longer CEO of the Tire Factory cooperative.
